Attorney Bio
Marshal's road to the courtroom started in south Mississippi, where he was born and raised. Marshal is a "first generation professional" — and, in fact, is the first member of his family to receive a bachelor's degree.
Marshal completed his undergraduate education at Tulane University on a Presidential Scholarship. He received his Bachelor's degree Magna Cum Laude with departmental honors in Philosophy and Economics.
Marshal went to law school at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. He was admitted to the Order of the Coif, an honor reserved for students with a top 10% class rank at graduation.
He was also named a Boalt Scholar, meaning that he finished his final year of law school ranked not only in the top 10% of students by class rank but in the top three students of his approximately 300-student class.
Marshal also received a number of awards for his performance in individual courses, including American Jurisprudence Awards (highest grade) or Prosser Awards (second-highest grade) in: (i) Constitutional Law, (ii) Civil Procedure, (iii) Tort Law, (iv) Property Law, (v) Advanced Legal Research, (vi) Advanced Legal Writing, (vii) Legal Ethics, and (viii) Real Estate Transactions & Litigation.
After law school, Marshal completed one of the most competitive judicial clerkships in the country, working for a prominent judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Marshal then practiced at an elite litigation boutique in Houston, Texas, where he gained deep experience in all aspects of commercial litigation under the tutelage of titans of the commercial trial bar.
In addition to his private practice, Marshal dedicates significant time to pro bono work. He received the Chevron Pro Bono Partner Award in recognition of his work representing victims of domestic abuse in family law matters. He also represents nonviolent Texas inmates in their parole applications.
In his spare time, Marshal is an outdoors nut. Before law school, he worked as a Park Ranger in Grand Teton National Park, where he learned the art and science of technical mountaineering. He has since summited 43 peaks whose summits exceed 10,000 feet, including serious ascents in the Canadian Rockies, the Cordillera Real in Bolivia, and the Cordillera Blanca in Peru.
